Tryst with Destiny
" At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance..... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again. "
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru 's first speech on the eve of first independence of India.
Though its been old, it's value to be reconsidered with India's present days .

We were workaholics, complete nutcase maniacs
"Still, many of us tend to create scenarios that let us work like dogs, because that's how we want our lives to be. It's irritating when someone says to back off, take a break, and don't work so hard." said Lindholm.
JAVA TECHNOLOGY: THE EARLY YEARS
"Chances are, everything you know about Java technology is only a few years old. "
Ya I also had the same chance. And all I know was very little. But I can't stop myself in knowing the early days of 1992 , what the " GREEN TEAM" did that had made the internet into another dimension.
" ......... And it was patently obvious that the Internet and Java were a match made in heaven. So that's what we did." all these James Gosling words reveals the truth.
Only 13 to be there to work with the new technology.Oh in western 13 to be an unlucky number ! But this is not for them. Yes the GREEN TEAM broked it. Hum ! there the real 13 lucky ones to be so intelligent.
All u want to know to about the first person team. Go Ahead ------> http://java.sun.com/features/1998/05/birthday.html
Thank u James and all others.

While traversing a gully, you lose your footing and slip down a steep slope.
The good news: You've stopped sliding. The bad news: You're losing your grip.
LIFELINE : First, catch your breath and assess the situation. Don't act until your adrenaline rush has subsided. Survey your surroundings to determine the safest route to safety. Look for lichen-covered boulders — these are more likely to be anchored to the slope. Grassy patches of dirt offer good footing, along with larger stones and roots. Avoid areas layered in loose gravel. This suits to every human when he takes a step next in his life.
Remember that the best path to safety might not be above you, but to your side.

GMail is much better than Hotmail or Yahoo!
At filtering spam email but the system is still far from perfect. As GMail users, we do encounter situations when a legitimate e-mail message from a friend or a client is incorrectly tagged as spam by GMail (known as false positive).
Infact, a NYTimes story suggested that the false-positive filtering rate of GMail is around 3% which means that every 3 emails (out of 100) tagged as spam by Google Mail may be from your friends, family or other contacts.
The next important question is how to catch these "GMail false positives" when you have tons of email in the Spam folder ? Well, it is not so tough as you may think.
First, turn on the Personal Level Indicators in GMail from the Settings page. When switched ON, these indicators add a single arrow ( › ) to messages that have your email in the To or CC field, and a double arrow ( » ) to messages that are sent only to you.
If you 20 or 30 email messages in the Spam folder, these indicators can help you quickly identify messages that were addressed to you. Look at the subject text or the sender's name - if that resembles a known contact, move that message from Spam to Inbox.
The above trick works just perfect for people who receive manageable amount of spam each day.
If your email address is more popular and you get hundreds of spam emails, try a search filter as described below [It is based on a simple theory - unlike friends or business contacts, a spammer is less likely to address you with your real name (or even pet name)]
in:spam to:me your_name
Type the above query in the GMail search box and it will show all spam messages that are addressed to you and have your name either in the subject or in the message body. [Replace your_name with your first name or even your pet name]
You'll get a list of emails that fit the above criteria - apply the same "personal level indicator" rule to visually identify non-spam messages from the search results.

Motherboard Knows Best : Should a Computer Make Life-or-Death Decisions?
How would you feel if your fate was in the "hands" of a computer?
The idea may not be as far-fetched as you think:
A new study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) says that computers, using a mathematical formula, could determine the wishes of incapacitated patients as accurately as—if not better than—their family members or close friends.
In the study, Wendler and his colleagues proposed this scenario: a 70-year-old Native American male, with a PhD and severe Alzheimer's, develops a life-threatening infection. If the patient's treatment or non-treatment preference is unknown, doctors would typically turn to his designated next of kin surrogate for guidance. But under Wendler's plan, a proposed computer software program, dubbed the "population-based treatment indicator," would make the choice by locating the profiles of similar patients—in terms of age, race, education, illness and other factors—and matching the most popular treatment choice for that group with one of the current patient's options.
The researchers analyzed nearly 20,000 surrogate and patient decisions, and discovered that surrogates are imperfect predictors of what a patient might want, getting it right only about two thirds of the time. Wendler says the proposed treatment indicator could add a layer of accuracy to the process.
But the idea of a computer program making life-or-death decisions is controversial, to say the least. It not only raises ethical questions, such as whether or not a mathematical formula can be a substitute for emotional human connections, but critics say that it would be a Herculean—if not impossible—task to compile the database required from which to draw information to make such monumental decisions.
